Kudos acknowledges and pays respect to the Gadigal and Bidjigal people of the Eora nation. They are the traditional custodians of the land Kudos operates on. We create, design, share, and exchange our work and knowledge on this important meeting place. We pay our respects to elders past and present and extend that respect to any First Nations people who engage with Kudos. This is and always will be Aboriginal land.

| Selina Decarlo (19) is an artist, writer, and editor for Voiceworks Magazine. She is the winner of the 2023 BR4R Seeking Asylum Poetry Prize, the 2025 Little Stories, Big Ideas Competition, was featured in the No Tokens Journal Issue #11 as editor’s choice, was a Top 20 Finalist for the 2026 RUSSH Literary Showcase, and more. My first suite of poetry, entitled ‘Recipients of a Two-Nation Heart’ introduced by two epigraphs originating from a Persian and Korean artist respectively explores the contradictions and chafing parts between reconciling diametric facets of the mind, body and soul within a hybrid identity. In particular, this is examined through the lens of girlhood, intertextual references to Virgil’s Book IV Aeneid, as well as through transgressive and unconventional styles of poetry: emulating the forms of flowcharts, call transcripts, stage directions, and mixed media references to emphasise the phenomena of physical and spiritual displacement, as well as the feeling of being ‘othered’. |
