rebecca mansour
 Emerging Artist and Designer Award
Rebecca Mansour is an emerging Lebanese artist working in Sydney, Australia. With a background in science, Mansour's approach to art making is often an investigation into her own behaviour and questions concerning modernity. With works across various disciplines including sculpture, painting and installation, Mansour uses various mediums to transfigure traditional ideals surrounding art and institutions, while also calling into question audiences' participation and behaviour. Mansour heavily concerns herself with the ethics surrounding art and the expectations that follow. As her own act of rebellion, Mansour often incorporates junk material in her work - materials that have lost meaning and value to society. Bringing into question the value of art and also the value of ourselves.

The final bow (2025)wood, chicken wire, canvas drop cloth, paint, yarn, fabric, junk
2.3 x 2.3m

The final bow explores the personal resentment I have towards my artistic practice and the institutions that influence it. The materials for this project were sourced from previous artworks that were made by the caricature of the artist I wanted to be. The final bow is both a metaphorical and physical bow, signifying the end of this performance as the painted faced artist.
